Spinach is a great vegetable to grow in kitchen gardens. It is a no-fuss plant that can be grown in a pot or in a bed, with other salad greens (and most other veg too). It is versatile enough to use as a border plant in flower gardens.

It grows best in cooler climates and will run to seed quickly if the weather gets hot (so not so good in warm climates except in winter).

You can grow from seed or seedling. Plants should be set about 20-30cm apart as they spread out a bit as they grow.

Pick leaves when they are young. Spinach freezes well too (unlike lettuce and other green leafy veg).
