Pumpkins are an easy, no-fuss addition to your garden. They don’t need any special fertilisers, soil or other conditions.
Plant in mid-to-late Spring. Sow the seeds directly into the garden (or pot), planting them about 2cm deep and about a metre apart.
Be warned! Pumpkins can take up a lot of space in your garden. They will grow to fill whatever space is available.
Don’t grow with potatoes, or where they can crowd other vegetables out.
Your pumpkins/gourds will be ready to harvest in about 20 weeks (Autumn). Pick them when the stalks are dry. Store in a cool, dry place, for up to 4 months.
