Garlic is grown from cloves taken from an existing bulb. Plant the cloves pointy end up, at least 2 cm below the surface. Plant the individual cloves about 7cm apart from each other.

Plant in full sun, in well-drained soil. Before planting, make sure that you have worked plenty of manure and compost into the bed (or pot). Plant in early Autumn, and water regularly.

Your garlic will be ready to pick when most of the leaves go brown (but there are still a couple of green ones). This will usually be in November (late Spring/early Summer).

Hang your garlic to dry out, then store in a cool, dry place. It will keep for about six months.
