Mint is one of those herbs that you find that you can either grow in abundance, or you have a lot of trouble with it.

Mint is difficult to grow from seed, but easy to grow from seedling, or cutting. Mint grows well in a pot and can be grown on balconies and indoors.

Mint like warm, moist, loose soil. It seems to grow happily enough in either full sun or shade, provided that it has sufficient water. Plant seedlings about 15cm apart (they will spread to fill the gaps). Don’t bother with fertiliser.

Regularly trim the plant plants back to stop them getting scraggly. Don’t harvest more than 1/3 of the plant, to allow it resources to regrow. The flowers attract bees to your garden.

Mint can be used fresh or dried.
