Chives are really easy to grow and can be planted almost anywhere (garden, pots, indoors).

Sow the seeds directly into the soil at about three times as deep as the length of the seed. Aim to space the plants about 3-5cm apart.

They like full sun, but need regular watering, especially if the climate is dry. They are perennial but you will find that the plants die down (leaves/chives go a little yellow and limp) in winter.

Chives are ready to harvest in about 7-12 weeks. Cut the flowers off to encourage further growth of the leaves. Chives are hollow stemmed.

You can get the standard onion chives or garlic chives (light pink/white flower).
