Stone fruit includes varieties like plums, peaches, nectarines, and apricots. Stone fruit like cool Winters and hot, dry Summers.
Plant in full sun, preferably with some protection from strong winds. They need plenty of space between them and their neighbours to allow for air circulation. The soil needs to be well-drained and nutrient rich.
Stone fruit are hard work. You’ll need to prune in winter (deciduous trees), fertilise in early Spring, and water well.
Don’t expect to see fruit for 2-3 years (check if your tree needs a pollinator – 2 trees).
Fruit will ripen between November and March depending on the Summer heat. Net the tree if you want to keep the fruit.
